Unspecified number of suspected commercial sex workers on Wednesday stormed the office of the local council II chairperson of Labor-line Parish in Pece division, Gulu Municipality to get coupons which were being given out to the group, badly affected by the COVID-19 lock-down, to receive food aid.
There are a total of 400 coupons to be given out to the suspected sex workers, according to Okoya Alex, the area LCII chairperson. Each is to get 10kgs of posho and five kgs of mange beans.
The food items were a donation from a local non-governmental organization operating in Gulu that requested not be named.
Last week, a number of commercial sex workers stormed the office of the local council 1 chairperson of Limu Medical and Flat sub ward in Laroo Division in Gulu Municipality claiming their were starving as a result of the lockdown.
Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, the chairperson in charge of resource mobilization also told a meeting of the Gulu district taskforce last week that a section of sex workers had threatened to demonstrate as well as release nude photos of prominent politicians and non-governmental organizations (NGO) bosses who have been their customers if they are not given relief food.
