Gulu City School Yet to Implement Abridge Curriculum

Kweyo primary school in Bar-dege/Layibi division in Gulu city is one of the schools struggling to implement the newly introduced abridged curriculum.

The abridged curriculum was introduce to fast-track teaching and learning and make up for the time lost during the prolonged school closure triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However teachers are struggling to implement it due to lack of access to the curriculum and not being orientation on how to implement the concept.

Opiru Bernard, the secretary health and children’s affairs for Bardege-Layibi division says the school was operating without lesson plan to guide the teachers.

Amito Alice Grace, the school head teacher confirmed the report, saying a number of teachers are yet to comprehend and understand the abridged curriculum since it was introduced.

Last month, Joseph Kiggundu, the chairperson of the National Private Schools and Institutions COVID-19 committee, said schools are contemplating whether to follow the old syllabus or the revised one developed by the ministry.

When schools fully reopened in January, several administrators found it a huge challenge to decide on the content they could give the learners. Up to date, some schools are still struggling to implement the said curriculum.
