By Tolit Ivan

At least 26 civil servants in the former Gulu Municipal council that has been elevated to a city status have lost their jobs in the ongoing validation and restructuring exercise in the newly created cities across the country.

Effective 1st July 2020, 10 cities became operational including Gulu. Others are: Arua, Mbarara, Jinja, Fort Portal, Mbale, Masaka, Lira, Soroti and Hoima.

Gulu City has since reappointed 104 civil servants of which 45 were reappointed on promotion, 13 staff were recommended for appointment on re-designation, 16 recommended on appointment on transfer within service, 3 were confirmed while 27 were retained without any promotion.

The renewal and promotion were done following a one month validation and restructuring exercise that was conducted to improve service delivery in the city.

This has however left Gulu City with a gap of 99 positions to be filled.

Isaiah Tumwesigye, the City Town Council, says the vacant positions will be filled in the next recruitment cycle.
