At least five men have in the last one week attempted to commit suicide in Pagik Parish, Paicho Sub County in Gulu District due to domestic violence.
Phillip Ongwech Agela, the Local Council Two chairperson Pagik Parish said that all the men were rescued as they were about to end their lives.
Ongwech said that the men confessed to being battered by their wives and were finding it hard to talk about it.
He said they have now embarked on community sensitization to end domestic violence which is one of the leading causes of suicide.
Ongwech says the five men are undergoing counselling together with their family members.
Aswa River Region has been ranked second in domestic violence with 1,663, according to the Police Annual Crime Report.
