Fire on Friday night gut-down over 40 houses including business premises at Elegu town council in Amuru district, destroying properties worth millions of shilling.
Richard Omony, an eyewitness, told Mega Fm that the fire started at around 12am in the night but the cause is yet to be established.
Linda Agnes Auma, the Amuru resident district commissioner said they suspect that the fire might have been caused by short circuit from one of the houses.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa river region police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying nobody was injured in the fire incident.
This is the second fire incident at the bustling Ugandan-South Sudan border market this year.
In February a fire outbreak razed down shops, clinics, restaurants and residential buildings at the Eastern side of Elegu Market, opposite Elegu Police Station.
Elegu Market, located a few meters away from the South Sudan border town of Nimule, attracts several traders from within Uganda and South Sudan.
