Expectant Mother Losses Baby After Nurse Declines To Attend To Her
What was earlier on anticipated as a joy for a family in Acut Omer Village, Tee-got Parish, Paicho Sub County in Gulu district this morning turned into mourning after their new born baby girl died simply because a health worker on duty at Tegot Atoo health center allegedly refused to attend to the mother citing lack of light.
Akera Jenifer went to deliver at the health facility today at around 2am.
According to Kilama Santo, the area local council one chairperson, the lady on duty told them there was no light to attend to her and went back to sleep.
Akera later went on to deliver the baby girl on her own in the health center’s compound, unfortunately it passed on after only 10 minutes, according to Kilama.
Several attempts to reach Layado Susan, the in-charge of Tee-got Atoo health center II for comments were futile since her known telephone number 077 3957701 was off.
However, the Gulu district acting Health Officer, Yoweri Idiba confirmed the report, adding that he has already directed the in charge to write a report on what happen exactly before the next course of action is taken.
According to authorities, in 2019, an expectant mother also lost her child in a similar manner.
According to code of professional ethics for health workers, a practitioner shall not deny emergency treatment or health care to a patient.
