Police in Aswa River Region have accused errant phone callers in Acholi sub region of clogging their emergency toll-free phone lines with bogus calls.
According to police, out of the 1,000 phone received each day, half of it are prank calls.
The toll-free phone lines were introduced in May last year to handle emergencies such as fire, robbery, mob actions and accidents.
But police accused communities of abusing the 999 or 112 police emergency phone lines installed at Gulu Central Police Station in Gulu City to handle emergencies in the region.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson says the communities are abusing the emergency phone call lines. He noted that in some cases, parents are allowing children to call in for no genuine reasons.
Recently, it emerged that some men have turned to the police emergency toll-free lines to look for love.
