High Court in Lira has nullified the election of the Colonel Charles Okello Engola as the Oyam North Constituency Member of Parliament over lack of requisite academic qualifications. Engola is the newly appointed State Minister for Defence.
His main challenger Crispus Ayena Odongo successfully challenged his election on ground that a certificate from Air Defense College, Nakasongola that was presented prior to his nomination was invalid because the institution is not listed among institutions gazetted by Uganda National Council for higher education.
Ayena also contested discrepancies in the names that appear on the various documents that Engola presented for nomination.
The transcript is in the names of Okello Charles P Engola yet his National Identity Card bear the name Okello Engola Charles Macodwogo.
High Court in Mbale also nullified the election victory of Annet Nyakecho, as Member of Parliament for Tororo County North in Tororo District.
Justice Patricia Waiswa Basaza delivered her ruling this afternoon following the petition by Geoffrey Ekanya, the former Member of Parliament for Tororo County.
Jinja High court also nullified the victory of Hajjati Rehema Watongola as Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament on grounds of lack of the requisite academic qualifications.
Justice Godfrey Namundi delivered the judgment this morning following a petition filed by Proscovia Salaamu Musumba, the former Forum for Democratic Change-FDC candidate for Kamuli municipality parliamentary seat.
