Car Owners in Gulu Plead for Movement Permits

Hundreds of car owners on Tuesday flocked the office of the Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC) pleading for movement permits.

This follows a Monday evening ban on movement of all private vehicles by President Yoweri Museveni as part of the efforts for combating the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The people included businessmen, patients, staff of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and banks.

Willy Okello, a private vehicle owner says he spent over six hours before he was issued the 14 days permit to operate his private vehicle to report to work.

On Monday evening Mr Museveni banned movements of all private vehicles noting that the owners were using them to sneak their relatives and illegally conducting business which jeopardizes the fight against the spread of coronavirus.

He said that everyone with special arrangements must consult the office of their respective RDCs to get movement permits.

However, Mr Museveni said, the RDCs must deploy dedicated officers who must be on duty for 24 hours.
