Boda Boda Cyclists Join Kitgum Covid-19 Taskforce
More than 300 Boda Boda cyclists in Kitgum district have been included as part of the Coronavirus Taskforce.
President Museveni among other directives issued on curbing the spread of Coronavirus banned Boda Boda cyclists from carrying passengers while a few have been allowed to operate for carrying goods for 14 days.
Local leaders in the district say the directives are being abused with many people still using motorcycles to carry people and goods yet they are not registered Boda Boda Operators in the district.
Simon Oyet, the Kitgum Municipal Boda Boda chairperson, says their members have been tasked to remain vigilant in ensuring that not only Boda Boda riders adhere to the presidential directives but also other members of the public .
Kitgum district coronavirus taskforce has also created 4 call stations for health emergencies including deliveries and accidents among others.
The four call stations are Mucwini to cater for Mucwini and Layamo sub counties, Lagoro to cater for Lagoro and Kitgum Matidi Sub counties, Namokora for Namokora Orom and Omiya anyima sub counties and Kitgum district headquarters for Kitgum municipality, Labongo Akwang, Labongo and Labongo Amida sub counties.
Each station has been given a vehicle to help respond to any emergency calls.
