Suspected armed Karimojong cattle rustlers have raided Mora East village in Paimol Sub County in Agago District in early hours of Tuesday and stole 54 heads of cattle.
The Karimojong numbering about eight struck the area at around 12am, according to security sources.
This is the first time since the beginning this year when armed Karimojong warriors stole a huge number of cattle after government deployed over 400 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel in districts in East Acholi where cattle rustlings are rampant.
Linos Ngompek, the Agago Resident District Commissioner (RDC) confirmed the incident adding that the cattle thieves fired live bullets in the air before escaping with dozens of cattle towards Kotido district, in Karamoja sub region.
Ngompek however said the vigilantes backed by LDU personnel recovered 51 head of cattle after a hot pursuit.
