Apac: 18 Primary Teachers Penalized over Indiscipline
At least 18 teachers in Apac district who appeared before the reward and sanction committee over indiscipline cases have been penalised.
According to the report, the committee during the financial year 2019-2020 recommended deletion of three classroom teachers from the payroll, withholding salaries of 10 teachers and demotion of two Headteachers.
The affected teachers were accused of absenteeism, drunkenness and unprofessional conducts.
Billy Okunyu, the Apac district education officer told Mega Fm that the affected teachers were warned several times but paid deaf ears.
However, Geoffrey Akodo, the chairperson of Uganda national teachers union-(UNATU) Apac branch requested the affected teachers to submit formal complain so that the union can confirm whether they were rightly punished or not.
Meanwhile, Apac resident district commissioner, Beatrice Akello Akori, has warned school headteachers against denying registered candidates from sitting national exams over fee defaulting, saying they will face arrest.
