Amuru, Kitgum and Agago districts have received assortments of personal protective equipment (PPE) for front line health workers after they threatened to lay down tools.

Last week over 300 patients who turned up for treatment at Atiak Health Center IV in Amuru district were sent away by nurses who said they can’t risk contracting Coronavirus following a shortage of masks that has lasted two weeks.

So far 22 health workers including two from Lira Regional Referral Hospital have contracted COVID-19.

The PPE comprise surgical masks, N95 respirators, examination and surgical gloves, heavy duty aprons, bio-hazard bags, protective gaggles, hand sanitizers and liquid soap. The PPE was a donation from the United Nation Population Fund.
