No Fireworks As Gulu Welcomes City
Residents of Gulu will tonight welcome the city without any major celebratory fanfare like fireworks or street band after security refused to grant permission.
The Gulu City welcome committee had budgeted up to 24 million shillings for fireworks display at midnight today with 6.9 million shillings allocated to cater for 300 guests in refreshment and meals, something security objected to.
According to Okwera Peter Onen, the municipal speaker and also chairperson of the City welcome committee, only a few municipal and district officials will be allowed to attend the celebrations set for tomorrow.
Jimmy Patrick Okema the Aswa river region police spokesperson warned the public including corporate entities from engaging in any banned activities like display of fireworks.
Gulu alongside 33 other districts is still under lockdown with no movement allowed in or out of the district.
