There was chaos on Wednesday at Gulu University after Government sponsored Students stormed the administration block demanding for their unpaid living allowances.

The situation was brought under control following the timely intervention of the anti-riot police unit.

The students accused the University for making them suffer yet they were supposed to be paid at the beginning of every semester for food and rent.

Shadic Ssempijja, the President of the Government sponsored students at Gulu University says the university has made it habit to pay them late yet their colleagues in other government aided universities are paid on time.

John Nyeko, the University Bursar says the delays was because of the Integrated Financial Management system which takes 72 hours before the money matures.

According to Nyeko, the money shall reach the student’s accounts by Friday evening.

Gulu University has a total of 771 students under government sponsorship programme and each student gets 887,000 shillings per semester.
