A woman has committed suicide in Kitgum district by ingesting pesticide after failing to repay the loan she took from a village saving and loan group (VSLA).
Christine Abalo, 53, a resident of Pajimo central village in Labongo Akwang sub county Kitgum district died on Sunday from St Joseph Hospital where she was rushed on Saturday after she allegedly took pesticide.
Alex Oketayot Bamboo, the Pajimo central LC1 chairperson says the deceased looked herself inside her house on reaching her group members coming to her home to confiscate her properties before taking the pesticide.
According to Oketayot, the deceased first attempted to commit suicide by hanging in early December 2019 but was saved by her husband identified as Denis Okec.
Efforts to get a comment from Ribe Ki Teko VSLA group chairperson Josephine Aber was futile as her phone was off by the time of filing this report.
But, according to reports, the deceased was expected to pay her group 580,000/= plus interest.
