At least six people have been confirmed dead and 10 others injured after lightning struck them at a funeral in Aringo-yon village, Laguti Sub County, Pader district.
The dead have been identified as Pauline Angom, Sedonia Akello, Sunday Aketowanga, aged 9, Grace Akello, aged 35, Alfred Olok (35) and a one year child identified only as Owachgiu.
According to reports, the victims had taken shelter under a sheanut tree when lightning struck them at around 7pm during a heavy down pour.
The injured were rushed to Laguti health Centre III in Laguti sub county and Atanga health Centre III respectively.
Pader deputy speaker George Obur who was attending the same burial told Mega FM that two died on spot while others died from the health Centre.
Christopher Mwaka Odokonyero, the Local Council III chairperson Laguti said the victims had gone for a burial when tragedy struck.
Meanwhile, a resident of Lukulya village in Atiak sub county, Amuru district identified as Charles Akena last night survived unhurt after lightning hit his grass thatched hut and burnt it to ashes during a heavy downpour.
