At least one person has been confirmed dead and five others injured in two separate road accidents in Gulu municipality on Monday.
The deceased identified as Ajok Sarah (48) was knocked by a speeding Isuzu Tipper Lorry Reg. No UAP 768/F in the areas of Cuk-acengere on Gulu-Moroto road. She died from St Mary’s hospital Lacor.
The deceased was traveling on a boda boda motorcycle Reg. No UDV 566/M with her husband identified only as Owach-giu when they were knocked at around 5pm.
According to eyewitness, after knocking the deceased, the driver identified as Kidega Geoffrey reversed the vehicle over her smashing both legs.
However, her husband escaped with injuries and is now admitted at St Mary’s hospital Lacor.
The second accident involving a van Reg. No UBB 876/K and two boda boda motorcycles occurred near St Michael School on Gulu-Lacor road.
The vehicle Reg. No. UBB 876/K knocked two Bajaj motorcycles registration number UDZ 509/Y and UET 516/X, injuring four people
Two of the victims have been identified as Okot Stephen, aged 25, and Arach Margate, aged 40, both residents of Pece Pawel.
Both the driver of the Tipper Lorry and the van identified as Odong Calvin, aged 28, are in police custody.
The officer in charge of traffic Gulu central police station Edwin Ayebare has confirmed both accidents.
