Bush burning has frustrated the implementation of livelihood projects being funded under NUSAF phase 3 in Gulu district.
In the last three years, the district has received 1.420 billion from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), towards the implementation of NUSAF 3.
So far Gulu has released a total of 1.336 billion shillings to fund 69 community sub-projects under NUSAF) phase 3.
Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu district LCV Chairperson said that a handful of groups that were supported under NUSAF and planted cassava lost their crops as a result of bush burning.
Mapenduzi says the most affected farmers are in the Sub Counties of Awach and Patiko were cassava plantation were set on fire.
Mapenduzi noted that farmers that were also engaged in tree planting and growing coffee also suffered a similar problem after a fire destroyed their trees.
NUSAF is a US$ 100 million World Bank loan with the major objective of helping local communities in the 18 districts of northern Uganda that have been ravaged by conflict over the last 20 years to recover economically.
