At least 20 street kids in Gulu have escaped from the different shelters they were taken into following the outbreak of corona virus.

The boys aged between 8-15 years are currently sleeping in  a dilapidated house at Wilobo market in Pece division, Gulu Municipality.

Simon Akena, the Local Council one Pece Commercial road said the children fled from the different centres saying they are not comfortable there.

He said the street kids who hail from neighbouring districts like Amuru, Pader, Kitgum and Lira are now engaged in crimes like house breaking especially in the market where 8 cases have been registered in the last one week.

Major Okot Santos Lapolo, the Gulu Resident District Commissioner who is the Chairperson  Gulu district Task Force said the dilapidated house the children are sleeping in will be demolished.

221 street children were in March taken to shelters run by Favor of God centre, Hashtag and St Monica girls to prevent them from catching COVID-19.
