Police in Acholi sub region have linked the fifteen (15) cases of homicide that were registered in Acholi sub region in the last one month to suicide.
According to police crime reports, majority of the victims have either ingested toxic agrochemicals or have used ropes to end their lives.
The latest victim has been identified as 42-year-old Francis Okello, a local farmer and a resident of Oratido village, Odek Sub County in Omoro District.
Okello reportedly ingested toxic agrochemical for controlling pest in vegetables on September 17, 2021 after a bitter quarrel with his wife.
14 out of the 15 suicide victims are males.
Since 2006, at least 420 people have committed suicide in Acholi sub region.
Andrew Opiyo, the Aswa River Region Community Liaison Officer described the situation as alarming.
Prof. Emilio Ovuga, a professor of psychiatrist linked suicide cases in the former war-ravaged region to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of violence witnessed during the war.
