At least 140 people were killed in road crashes in Acholi sub region in 2021, according to police.
The region, which falls under Aswa River Region, recorded 173 fatal road crashes, 330 serious and 125 minor ones.
In total, there were 628 cases of road crashes recorded in Acholi sub region in 2021. This is the ninth highest in the country.
Meanwhile in Lango sub region, 115 people were killed in road crashes in 2021.
The region recorded 636 cases of road accident during the same period.
Kampala registered the highest number of road fatalities with over 800 people losing their lives.
All in all, 4,159 died in road crashes in Uganda in 2021. The country registered 17,443 cases of road accident last year.
March, April, May and December, saw the highest number of road crashes.
33 percent of the road victims crashes were pedestrians while 34 percent were motorcyclists.
