Six Killed In Gulu-Kampala Highway Road Accident


At least six people were last night killed and 11 others injured in a bus accident involving a Kitgum bound bus on Gulu-Kampala Highway.

The victims were travelling in a bus Reg. number UAQ 643W, belonging to Roblyn bus company when it hit a stationary truck Reg. number UAX 001Y parked by the roadside in the areas of Wabigalo in Nakasongola district at around 1am.

The dead include Lamunu Stella from Kitgum district, Mathew Stanley Ochola, a teacher at Jinja College, Atto Rose from Palabek Gem in Lamwo district, Akullu Susan, Stella Namono from Mukono,and Akena Johnson, the bus conductor.

The bus company general manager David Ocaya says the injured including the Lamwo district police commander Eliau Moses Osega were rushed to different health units including Mulago, Luwero and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.

Others are Wilfred Oyilot (Packwach), Christine Komugisha (Kayunga), Solomon Obalim (Agago), Lameck Okello (Kitgum), and Gift Tumusiime (Hoima).

The DPC suffered a fractured left leg and currently receiving treatment at Bishop Asili Memorial health center in Luwero district.

One of the survivors who declined to be named for personal reasons says the bus driver was talking on phone when it hit the stationary truck.

Denis Mucunguzi, the Luwero district police commander has confirmed the incident saying investigation is underway.
