The Ministry of Education is set to recruit 1,364 secondary school teachers and 248 support staff in seed and grant-aided schools.
The vacant posts include headteacher, deputy headteacher, education officers for arts and sciences, assistant education officers, bursars, steno secretaries, enrolled nurse, laboratory and library assistants.
According to the Ministry, the teachers will be sent to 62 schools. 50 of the schools are seed schools while 12 are grant-aided schools.
In an interview on Tuesday, Sam Kuloba, the Commissioner of Secondary Education at the education ministry says that they are recruiting teachers to make sure that government realizes its target of having a functional secondary school in every sub-county.
According to the Ministry, each school will get a total of 27 teachers.
For grant-aided schools that already exist, the advertised posts will be filled by teachers within the schools.
Government is estimated to spend over 14 billion shillings on wage for teachers in this financial year.
Uganda is estimated to have more than 1,400 sub-counties.
