Police in Nwoya is holding a contractor identified as Andrew Okello over allegations of child labour.
Okello who was sub contracted to construct drainage channel along Anaka-Olwiyo road reportedly picked a total of 15 casual laborers from Dokolo including four children aged between 15-17 years.
Nwoya district Senior Probation Officer, Esther Alimo told Mega FM that she got to know about the matter after the children stormed her office on 13th June 2019 prompting arrest of the suspect.
She said that the children complained that they had not eaten for two weeks and had not been paid for their work.
According to the laborers who spoke to Mega Fm, the suspect has refused to pay them even when they have completed the work.
Okello Titus Fred, an officer in Nwoya child protection unit confirmed the report adding that they are still sourcing for support from partners and well-wishers to resettle the children to their home district as investigations continue.
Nwoya district has in the recent weeks been in the lime light over exploitation of labourers especially on commercial farms.
