Apac District Local Government officials led by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Stella Abyeto were on Tuesday afternoon thrown out by members of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) over lack of accountability.
The officials were appearing before the PAC chaired by the Agago District Woman Member of Parliament, Franka Judith Akello at Gulu District Council Hall in Gulu town to answer queries in relation to the lack of accountability of over 2.3 billion shillings.
According to a query raised by the Office of the Auditor General in the financial 2017/2018, over 2 billion Shilling was siphoned from the district accounts without the approval of the accounting officer, who in this case is the CAO.
Abyeto, laboured to explain how the funds disappeared from the district account to the dissatisfaction of the PAC members.
Abyeto said she has since interdicted Yeko Ogwal, the Chief Finance Officer and Moses Ebong, the Accountant on allegation that they were behind the fraudulent activities.
But the PAC members said they were not convinced by the explanation of the CAO gave, describing it as complex.
MP Akello accordingly asked Abyeto and her team to go to Kampala on July 10, 2019 so that they can explain better how the missing funds were swindled.
