Amuru Teacher In Critical Condition After Fasting For Nine Days


A primary school teacher identified as Meddi Otim is in critical condition after fasting for 11 consecutive days without food and water to mark the lent period.

Lent is a solemn religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends six weeks later, before Easter Sunday.

Otim, a primary three teacher at Guru-Guru primary school started fasting on April 3, and had planned to end on Ester Sunday.

However, this morning, he was found lying helplessly and very weak to the extent that he can’t move or even talk.

Peter Otema, a catechist at Guru-Guru Church of Uganda said Christians were told to fast only on Wednesday’s till Easter but Otim went against the directive.

Michael Lakony, the Amuru district Local Council V chairman said the teacher was this morning rushed to hospital for treatment since he was in a poor condition.
