Police in Gulu district are holding Quinta Apio, the Gulu District Special Needs Education Officer for allegedly embezzling 18 Million shillings.
Apio was picked by police on Sunday for pocketing money meant for facilitating a meeting organized with funding from UN Children agency, Unicef.
According to reports, the money was released to Apio to facilitate the Special Olympics Meeting.
The meeting attracted senior education officials including District Education Officers from the districts of Gulu, which is the host, Wakiso, Jinja and Kibale.
In her statement, Apio told police that the money was stolen from her by a person she did not name.
In a crisis meeting attended by Major Santos Okot Lapolo, the Gulu Resident District Commissioner, Betty Aol Ocan, the Gulu Woman Member of Parliament, Caesar Akena, the Gulu District Education Officer, John Bosco Nyankol, the Gulu acting District Police Commander and Auric Oryem, the Gulu Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, it was resolved that Apio should be tasked to refund the missing cash.
